The Thornes officially formed in 2018 but our seven core members have played together since their school days. This close bond sets us apart from many bands that rely heavily on deps and multiple lineups. We pride ourselves on providing a well-polished and tight sound, and love performing together, which is evident on stage.

The band uses a small and selective pool of regular players and only accepts gigs where the majority of the members are available to safeguard our high performance standards. These players are also drafted in when the gig calls for backing vocals, extra horns or percussion! 

Most events call for us to provide our own high-quality PA system and lighting. However, we're also happy to integrate with house equipment or collaborate with venue sound teams and festival production crews, always ensuring our sound quality and performance standards are met.

Each member of the band is a professional musician with training at prestigious institutions including the Royal College of Music, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Leeds Conservatoire and BIMM London. Outside of their work with The Thornes, they fill their time with opera residencies, freelance performing, session recording, music tutoring, classroom teaching, and sound technician roles.
